When I lived in Ecuador in 2006, I was constantly coming across fruits I'd never heard of before, so I began documenting them. I wrote the name in Spanish across an 8.5 inch sheet of paper to indicate size. If that wasn't available, I stuck a pen in the picture. There were also pears and apples and other fruits that were common in North America, even though the taste was somewhat different. I think that we don't see a lot of these fruits in our grocery stores because they haven't yet been hybridized so that they can be harvested all at once and shipped long distances. Part of the fun of travel is tasting new foods.
